NAYLOR CONCRETE RECOGNISED IN MPA HEALTH & SAFETY AWARDS

Designed to help prevent serious injuries and fatalities within the mineral products industry, the awards enable the industry to learn about and share the innovations and good practice that improve health, safety, and wellbeing in the workplace.

Naylor Concrete received Certificates of Merit in four of the eight award categories in  recognition of new health, safety and wellbeing initiatives implemented by the company:

  • The ‘Mental Health & Wellbeing Support’ programme, which created a mental health support infrastructure, trained six mental health first aiders, launched new risk assessments which incorporate mental health, and introduced ongoing mental health initiatives such as ‘Brew Friday’ where every employee is encouraged to share a cuppa with a colleague.
  • ‘Safe working at height in lintel production’ campaign, which was created to reduce the risks associated with working above and in close proximity to a hopper which is craned into place during production. The new process which was developed has resolved these issues and ensured no near misses have been reported.
  • The ‘First Aid and Lighting Point’ initiative which used lighting to highlight the location of first aid boxes within the factory and makes it easier for employees who are less familiar with the factory environment to find them quickly.
  • The ‘Take Safety Home’ induction presentation which encourages employees to take their workplace health and safety culture into their homes, and highlights relevant areas where this approach could improve safety such as checking power tools for damages flex or casing.

Craig Smith, EHS Manager for Naylor Concrete, comments: “The health, safety and wellbeing of our employees both at work and at home has always been paramount to us as a business. We’re delighted to have received recognition for our activities in this area from the MPA and look forward to building upon these and other initiatives to benefit our employees and, by sharing our learnings, other organisations operating in the mineral products industry.”

Naylor Concrete employs 78 people at five locations throughout the UK.
